Summer in NYC
New York City has a lot on offer this summer. From cool music festivals to free public theatre events like Shakespeare In The Park, there are so many fun things to do in New York in the summertime. Check out our top things to do in NYC this summer below.
Free Things To Do In NYC
Central Park is always a great place to wander around and see the city sites. This year, the Public Theatre is celebrating the 400-year legacy of William Shakespeare by presenting free Shakespeare plays in Central Park. This is a tradition in NYC that you should experience if you are planning a trip to New York in the summer. Twelfth Night is playing from July 17th to August 19th and tickets are free!
You can only get a maximum of two tickets per person. Be sure to line-up early as the box office opens at noon and they tend to run out quickly. If you missed out on seeing Othello which ran from May 29th to June 24th, you might want to make an online reservation to go into the ticket lottery. There is only a limited number of tickets available on the day of the performance, and they are distributed via mobile lottery. Seating options are not available as they are distributed at random.
Unusual Things To Do In NYC
Since New York is home to a mecca of artists, it’s full of unusual things to do any time of the year. Visit Rockaway Beach to see the free exhibit “Rockaway!”. This interesting exhibition celebrates the ongoing recovery of the Rockaway Peninsula following the devastating impact of Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Part of this year’s exhibition includes the mesmerizing Narcissus Garden, by Yayoi Kusama. The exhibit consists of 1,500 mirrored stainless steel spheres laid on the ground of an out of commission train garage on the grounds of the decommissioned military base at Fort Tilden. The exhibition runs on Sundays from now until September 2nd at Gateway National Recreation Area at Fort Tilden.
Cool Things To Do In NYC
California has Coachella, and New York has Panorama. The Panorama Music Festival is brought to you by Goldenvoice, the organizers of Cali’s Coachella Music Festival. Panorama Music Festival runs from Friday, July 27, 2018, to Sunday, July 29, 2018, at Randall’s Island Park. This is most likely one of the best things to do in NYC in July for lovers of music, art, and food. The Panorama Music Festival line-up includes The Killers, Janet Jackson, and The Weeknd. Check out the Sephora tent for full-service hairstyling, makeup touch-ups, and DIY temporary hair color. This vendor will be busy, hence you should make this your first stop at the festival to get their free swag while supplies last.
Hot Nightlife In NYC
There is no shortage of some of the best nightclubs in NYC to go to any day of the week. In fact, the city that never sleeps probably has arguably the best night life on the East Coast. Since there are so many venues to choose from, we couldn’t possibly name them all. While we couldn’t include every nightclub in the city, we choose something a little different.
If you’re looking for somewhere where you won’t burn a hole in your credit card, check out Bembe Nighclub in Brooklyn. While most nightclubs in NYC have major cover charges, you may only pay around $10 at Bembe. This may seem rather low in comparison to other venues. It’s most noteworthy if you don’t want to spend a ton on your night out. Bembe nightclub hosts some of the world’s best DJs spin everything from Latin, reggae, salsa, and afro-beats. Tucked away at 81 South 6th Street in Brooklyn under the Williamsburg Bridge, Bembe is a hidden gem. The drinks at Bembe are cheap, averaging around $8. Since this place is cash only, you should hit the ATM before you go. Bembe also have live music with global artists pumping out firey beats so you can dance till closing time, which is 4am!
Consequently, if you haven’t explored many NYC boroughs, like the East Village, why not pick a one to explore for a day. Rather than sticking to the standard attractions, try something new. Because New York City has so much to offer, it may be your most favorite place to visit.
